Fashion Forecasting Final: Out of Touch

Overview:

“Out of Touch” is a post‑COVID fashion forecasting project inspired by the emotional sensitivity of the Romantic Era. My group explored how the pandemic created a longing for intimacy and how fashion can help rebuild that connection. We developed a soft, romantic aesthetic using sheer fabrics, delicate lace, fluid silhouettes, and warm blush‑toned colors to express vulnerability, closeness, and the renewed desire for human touch.

Finding the Concept:
We began by building a concept board to visually express the emotions we couldn’t yet put into words. Through images of softness, touch, and vulnerability, we shaped the foundation of “Out of Touch,” a concept centered on gentle love and the longing for physical connection in a post‑COVID world. These visuals helped us define the tender, intimate feeling the collection is built on.

Exploring Colors & Materials:
Our next step was choosing the colors and materials that would visually express the emotion behind “Out of Touch.” We focused on fabrics and tones that could tell a story on their own, like soft silks, sheer tulles, delicate lace, and warm romantic hues that made the viewer feel the intimacy we were describing.
By selecting textures and colors that matched our message, we ensured the collection communicated tenderness and connection before a single word was spoken.

Structures, Shapes, & More:

For the final stage, we focused on choosing shapes, structures, and details that matched the softness and intimacy of our concept. Flowy silhouettes, gentle draping, and delicate textures helped translate the emotional tone of “Out of Touch” into physical design. Every structural choice was made to reinforce the same tenderness and vulnerability we had been building throughout the project.
Takeaways:
From this project, I learned how to collaborate creatively while making sure every voice in the group was heard. Because our concept relied so heavily on emotion and storytelling, we had to stay aligned on a shared vision so the final collection didn’t drift away from its core message. I also gained a stronger understanding of how to describe materials, choose fabrics with intention, and use design elements to communicate feeling. Overall, this project taught me how fashion can translate abstract concepts—like intimacy and connection—into something visual, tangible, and cohesive.
